Pioneer Sternal Cable System
Summary
The Pioneer® Sternal Cable System is an improved alternative over traditional monofilament sternal wire. This system consists of multi-strand stainless steel and titanium cable which is tensioned and secured using Pioneer's patented tensioner/crimper instrument. the cable is smooth and flexible, making insertion and removal easy and safe. The tensioner assures adequatete tension is applied, while the tension scale ensures each cable is tensioned to the same degree before crimping. Multiple figure-eight constructs work as one unit to provide optimal stabilisation. Features and Benefits
Mechanical instability of the sternal closure is one of the main contributing factors to slow-healing, infection, patient discomfort and sternal dehiscence. It is generally accepted in orthopedics that a more stable bony fixation leads to faster and more complete fracture healing. Because of the physical property of the cable as well as the crimp style method of attachment, the Pioneer Sternal Cable System performs better, is easier to work with, and is substantially less susceptible to failure than monofilament wire. Certain demographic groups have long been theorized to be at “high risk” for sternal complications:
Although indicated and recommended for all patients, we believe it to be crucial that the Pioneer Sternal Cable System be used on these high-risk groups. |
