Actilite - Manuka Honey Contact Layer Dressing
Summary
Manuka Honey Wound DressingActilite is a knitted viscose dressing for low adherence and coated with anti-bacterial Activon+ Manuka honey. The Manuka honey dressing is designed to protect a wound, promote healing and allow the passage of exudate. Bacterial colonisation management is achieved in a natural way through the antibacterial barrier properties of the medical grade manuka honey in Actilite dressing. Actilite dressing has a level of Activon+ honey appropriate for wound protection, the antibacterial effect has been enhanced with the addition of high grade antibacterial Manuka oil (Activon+). This patented Activon+ technology has been demonstrated in-vitro to be effective against a number of major wound infecting organisms including MRSA, VRE and Providentia stuartii. In the laboratory tests the inhibition of bacteria was demonstrated to be better than a povidone iodine dressing and several silver based dressings. [features]
Electrical Burn to Upper Arm A 20x15cm electrical burn wound with MRSA infection. Previously treated with Amoxicillin Fluclozacillin and Hydrogel with little progress. [mode of action] |

How to Use
[how to use]The hygroscopic effect of Activon+ promotes a moist wound healing environment. The dressing is easy to apply, with honey being naturally self-adherent it will gently adhere to surrounding dry skin but will not adhere to a wound bed. Place Actilite directly onto wound bed (either side down); to cover large wound areas place additional dressings side by side. For smaller wound Actilite may be cut to size using sharp scissors (the viscose material will not fray). Cover with a secondary dressing, depending on tissue type within the wound bed and level of exudates your secondary dressing of choice could be a film dressing or absorbent pad. We recommend Eclypse as a secondary dressing to Actilite on exuding wounds. [frequency of change]Actilite may be left in place for up to 7 days depending on wound exudate levels, any surrounding interstitial fluid, oedema and dressing regime. The amount of wound exudate affects the anti-bacterial efficacy of Actilite, an indication of this is colour change (colour will fade significantly).
